My Choice: Ruth E. Carter (Dolemite Is My Name)

My Nominees: Jacqueline Durran (Little Women), Julian Day (Rocketman), Mayes C. Rubeo (Jojo Rabbit), Arianne Phillips (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood)

Runners-up: Anna Robbins, Susannah Buxton, Caroline McCall, and Dulcie Scott (Downton Abbey); Andrea Flesch (Midsommar); Sandy Powell and Christopher Peterson (The Irishman); Mark Bridges (Joker); Jacqueline Durran and David Crossman (1917)

The Academy loves its period-inspired wardrobe, especially when it comes to the 1960s: one of the colorfully loudest decades in American history. For this reason, I predict a win for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but it will be a close race with Little Women for its beautifully ornate and accurate nineteenth century attire. It was sad to not see Ruth E. Carter's dazzling artistry nominated for Dolemite Is My Name, which in many ways out classes Once Upon a Time in Hollywood with its variety, style, and professionally seductive flare.
